Choosing the Right Real Estate Agent

Choosing the Right Real Estate Agent

Buying or selling a home is a big investment choice and the process can be emotional and stressful. So whether you’re a buyer or seller, you want to work with the right real estate agent for you. Choosing the right real estate agent will make the process easier, but how do you choose?

Here are 5 tips that will help you do just that:

  1. Pick an agent who specializes in your type of property.

You always want to work with someone who focuses on the type of property you’re interested in buying or selling. While some focus on commercial real estate, others focus on residential and, in many cases, have a niche (condos, rentals, single family homes, etc.). You want to choose an agent who is likely to have done many transactions in your particular real estate niche.

  2. Select an agent that knows the local market.

You always want to work with a real estate agent who knows the area well. This is especially true if you’re moving to an area you aren’t familiar with. Good agents will know the homes, neighborhoods and comparable pricing. If you’re a seller a realtor who is knowledgeable in the local market will be just as valuable.

  3. Find an agent that suits your personality.

Buying and selling real estate comes with its stresses, but it’s also an experience that can be enjoyable when you work with a realtor that you get along with. There’s no reason to put decisions this large in the hands of someone you don’t mesh well with. In the end this will cause friction that could possibly ruin a deal.

  4. Choose an agent that will focus on your needs.

You want your agent focused on your objectives. In other words, find an agent who wants to help you reach your goals, not just make high commissions or meet sales quotas at your expense. While these agents are few and far between, they do unfortunately exist, so avoid them as best you can.

  5. Choose an agent with a clean transaction history.

The right real estate agent can make or break your transaction. Make sure you take your time choosing one that will help you through the process responsibly, ethically and thoughtfully. Call Williamsburg Realty at 757-903-0450.
